Canoe Storage Racks

  1. The Club is very lucky to have its own boat storage racks at Derwent Water Marina. The racks are primarily for Club boats for our members to use and all spaces are individually allocated. We are actively buying new boats so we need to ensure that every space on the rack is actively used.
  2. The club has a very limited number of spaces on these racks for members to keep their own private boats. These spaces are very few so we try to allocate them as fairly as possible according to need. Typically they are members who don’t have a car, have special needs, or who actively contribute to the running of the club and use their boats frequently.
  3. Only in exceptional circumstances will we consider an application from someone who has not been a member for a year or more.
  4. Please don’t assume because you see what looks like a spare space on the rack then there is room for your boat. We try to keep a couple of unused spaces but it may also be of course that the owner has taken the boat away on holiday.
  5. Don’t even think about putting a boat on the rack without asking! We take a hard line with unauthorised boats on our racks – they are removed to Marina racks and then incur their standard commercial fees for short term storage and removal.
  6. Please note that Derwentwater Marina offers similar, perhaps safer, canoe storage facilities but at a higher cost. Plus, you won’t have our Rack Officer hassling you all the time!

If you would like to apply for a space please in the first instance give Pete Knowles, the Rack Officer a ring for advice. 017687 73686.

Notes for would be applicants

If you would like to apply for a space please in the first instance give Pete Knowles, the Rack Officer a ring for advice. 017687 73686. If you really need a space then I will do my best to find one.

  1. Please note that the club racks are busy, canoes get bumped, accidents happen, and the club racks are not a place to keep a fragile boat. The club accepts no responsibility for loss or damage howsoever caused.
  2. At present the charge for a private boat space on our racks is £35 a year. This is likely to increase significantly next year.
  3. We advise you to lock your boat to the rack. Please use a combination lock and advise the Rack Officer what the number is. Very occasionally there are instances where we have to move boats and if we don’t know your number then we will have to cut the lock or cable.
